Department of Livestock

Goals

Update: The Department of Livestock is currently working on the replacement of the Brands Enforcement programs in full, to be integrated into the ServiceNow platform. This is a large step in the process of getting the applications to communicate within the department. Legacy applications will be upgraded or replaced and the data made available for reporting across the department. Business processes are being identified and a rough order of magnitude set for automation.

Objectives

  • Enhance, Develop, or procure key business applications
Update: The Department of Livestock has made a significant investment into the development of a Landmark brands enforcement program. Progress has been made to consolidate the Meat inspection program into the existing Animal Health program and incorporate the milk and egg programs into the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab program.
  • Updating and implementing a solution for data-driven business intelligence & analysis
Update: The Department of Livestock has been working with the State of Montana Data Officer to implement the Snowflake Platform. Once in place, Snowflake will provide the ability to analyze the data from every information system within the Department of Livestock in one location. This robust tool will improve the ability for the department to make decisions based on current data.

Update: The Department of Livestock has implemented Case Management through the ServiceNow platform for IT and work continues on the addition of the other divisions. We are preparing the department programs for integration with the Citizen Portal that is being developed by the department of Administration

Objectives

  • Achieve a more robust and intuitive ticketing system with the ability to leverage ticket workflows.
Update: The Implementation of ServiceNow Case management has allowed for improvement of ticketing through Case Management. This is in production in the IT Environment and under development for the Animal Health Division and the Brands Enforcement Division.
  • Enhance internal and external communication platforms for getting information to both internal and external customers in an effective and efficient manner.
Update: The movement of the website to the CMS platform improved the ability to make timely edits to the information being displayed to the external customers. Further plans have been discussed to add the Frequently Asked Questions to the External Facing ServiceNow platform. This fits in with the current Rebuild of the Brands Enforcement Programs on the ServiceNow platform scheduled for production in 1st quarter 2023, and the State of Montana's move to a Citizen One-Stop Shop.

Update: The Department of Livestock continues to work on continuity by improving the following areas:
- Creation and Maintenance of Distribution Lists and the development of Case Management within all divisions of the Department. The analysis of business process to improve and automate the data flow process is ongoing.

Objectives

  • Adjust and make enhancements to the Departments DR plans.
Update: The Department of Livestock DR plans have been moved to the new location provided by the State of Montana and reviewed. Completion of the adjustments and enhancements has been impeded by the termination of the party responsible for the process. A replacement has been hired and the process will continue.
  • Review and enhance the Security for the department as needed.
Update: The Department of Livestock operates in a physically secure space, with limited access for Non-Employees.
The IT Department has implemented reviews of the Network Vulnerability Scans on a weekly basis and creation of cases to address the vulnerabilities that are identified by the weekly scans.
