Project / Program purpose and objectives Fairfax 3.5 is reaching End of Life and will no longer be supported. This requires mitigating to Fairfax 5.5, as well as upgrading document scanning systems and procedures. The FairFax system processes individual and business tax forms. This includes the ability to process current tax forms, but also previous tax year forms. Each year’s tax forms are modified, per legislative direction, and each state’s tax forms are different. Therefore, the system requires specialized configuration to be able to process different year tax forms, which also requires extensive testing. This system enables the department to be in compliance with supporting State of Montana tax processing requirements.
